Overview
The Galveston Wharves Construction & Maintenance Department is responsible for the planning, upkeep, repair and improvement of the organization’s physical assets to ensure they remain safe, functional and reliable. The department supports day-to-day operations by maintaining a wide range of infrastructure, including buildings, piers, HVAC systems, fleet vehicles, and specialized equipment.
Key responsibilities include preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, capital improvement projects and emergency response. The department oversees construction activities, renovations, and structural repairs while ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards, building codes and regulatory requirements. Routine inspections and asset condition assessments are conducted to extend asset lifecycles, minimize downtime and reduce long-term costs.
In addition, the Construction & Maintenance Department manages fleet and equipment servicing to ensure operational readiness and reliability. By coordinating skilled trades, contractors and internal resources, the department delivers efficient, cost-effective solutions that protect organizational investments and support continuous operations.
