Galveston Island is under a winter weather advisory through midnight on Tuesday January 16th. Additionally, a round of freezing rain and sleet is anticipated to reach the area at approximately 6pm on Tuesday. City officials are urging Islanders to take precautions and prepare for the inclement weather.

The Galveston Island Causeway will remain open. This roadway is a State priority. All traffic lanes will remain open unless ice accumulation requires lane closures. In the event of icy conditions, travel across the causeway will be restricted to one inbound and one outbound lane. Crews will be closely monitoring the causeway’s deck temperature.

There is a Gale Warning in effect for the Island as well as a Small Craft Advisory for Galveston Bay through Wednesday morning.
With sustained offshore winds, it’s possible to see tides as much as a foot lower than normal.
